I've still been so inspired my the new works I have been doing lately. So springing off this new art variation I decided to offer the first 4-5 people who wanted one a free art piece so that I can change 1 art piece into a whole collection. Here is the making of one of the pieces:

New Art Direction

I've been so inspired lately by imagry my friend Tracy had shown to me so I have been really sketching up a storm. Here are some of my newest illustrations. Going with the above theme I have decided to create a set. I will definitely be posting it here and on my Deviant art once completed. I'm so excited.

I then refine it, adding small details and fixing things I dont like

I cell shade it ... even though I LOVE the flats

Then its the background. It looks a little funky now ... but add some flowers...

And try not to box the image ... Viola finished XD

So I am going to go back and continue drawing, but I thought blogging might be a nice break.

This last one is a sketch of an upcomming illustration I am about to complete.

Hello everyone,
Well its been a long day, spending my time between working on WB's new Harry Potter website created by BFG Communications. I'm a recent intern there, working with the interactive department.

It's been 3 weeks since I've started and I've been privileged to work on a few projects so far. As mentioned prior I'm assisting other designers with the newest Harry Potter website, I worked on Camel Cigarettes new web launch, 99th Birthday - a interactive experience celebrating Camel's 99th year in business, and some other smaller web projects. So far its been a great experience trying to get the groove of things there and balancing The Taffetas project and freelance work along side it.

While this isn't the part I worked on, it is the part of the website that is actually live as of this moment.

One of the projects I have been working on until recently has been an animated short for Mind Katalyst. I have been working with Mind Katalyst as a designer and became design lead for this project.

I helped to create the story and created the style guide for the film that was sent off to the animation studio. The style of the animation is based off of old UPA cartoons with updated colors and patterns. I'm really excited to see the film once it is complete!

Well its been quite some time since I wrote in here. I guess I have to face the truth that I am definitely not the most consistent blogger out there. However that being said, I am happy to be once again writing in this little journal of mine.

Veil and Gemini of The Taffetas by Tracy

So much has been going on lately I almost don't know where to begin. Tracy and I have been reworking our sketch muscles as well as continuing our animation pitch project The Taffetas. For those unfamiliar, The Taffetas has been an ongoing project between myself, Tracy, and a slew of wonderful volunteers. All in all I have been super excited about the direction of the project, which includes the art and writing and the re-finessing of the pitch.

CuddleBat Graphics LLC

So I am finished with another one of my side gigs, reinventing Cuddle Bat's unique branding and creating a website, business card and stationery to go along with it. Cuddle Bat is a company owned and operated by Emma Lee Dyer and her boyfriend Collin (his last name escapes me). They create one-of-a-kind apparel and hand-made housewares using up-cycled materials and original designs. If you want to check out the site live, or buy from her shop go here : LINK

The logo was created by the owner of the store and the design was reinvented by me to be more her. Becuase of their offbeat merchandise my design choices followed suit - typography was chosen to mix and match and photos were made to look more grainy and used. Inspirations for this indie chic store stem from band posters and an argyle sweater.

The business card (front) mock-up and cover to the left are a continuation of the branding direction and state their mission. At the bottom of the post is the mock-up to a letterhead. Emma hadn't requested that I make this particular things, but I loved the project so much that I added them in (though she has yet to see them).

What I like most about this project is that it is a much different aesthetic than I normally do. It has definitely been rewarding to step out of that design safe zone that I find myself in. This project has been long due for an overhaul and I am honored they saught me out to do the job. They sell really neat wares and their stuff comes and goes so you have to check often for new items.

Third Potato - Brianna's New Website

So recently I have just finished one of my pet projects, a website for Brianna Alexander, a deviant artist who goes by Fyuvix and is the artist behind Pompfiction (pompfiction.com). You can check her out either right on her portfolio website (ThirdPotato.com), or on deviantArt.com (fyuvix.deviantart.com)

I tried to recreate her personality by duplicating the colors she often utilizes in her own artwork and the present color scheme for her corporate identity. Although there are a few things I would like to fix as far as the design goes, I really love the way this project has turned out.

As far as the corporate id, I have been a great part in assisting her with what she wanted her site to represent. This includes nudging her to go with something that that has a little more "third potato" and less comic-y flair to make her more original in her branding. Coming up with different layouts and ideas for her branding, and of course creating the website to go with it all.

All in all I think this will definitely set her apart from many of her competitors and really showcase her already amazing portfolio when searching for job opportunities in her field and I wish Brianna the best of luck and I am happy she loves her site as much as I do.

Now to move onto creating my own site to finish my newest branding solution!

Jeffrey's Heart Color Options

Hello Everyone!
This is just a follow-up to Jeffrey's Heart Foundation branding and logo design work that I have finished up some time ago. Below are the color options that I had considered when starting the project. The first are a color combination being presently used by the organization. The middle was a solution I found to be best suited for the overal scheme (to keep it from being too predictable), and then the last being the happy medium.

So to just explain, there is a reason why I went with the center blue scheme. The red & white color scheme pictured first on the left side really doesn't look too nice when combining things such as the tin man imagery and I felt the colors are a bit obvious. White and red are the colors of many hospital organizations (such as the Red Cross, American Heart Foundation, etc) as well as the local color of a heart and a piece of paper. But does this really go on to represent Jeffrey at all?

I wanted to go beyond that. I combined a much more sophisticated pattern of blues and browns to push that there is a boy behind here with a family and a story. I was inspired by a picture Tatiana took when exiting the hospital after a visit with her brother Jeffrey. The image itself is a simple one: A stain on floor shaped like a heart right on the path outside of the hospital. This was the key image and a sign of hope for Clarisa, her son Jeffrey, and the rest of people behind Jeffrey's Heart Foundation. The blue is eye dropped directly from this image and the rest of the colors accentuate that blue in a pleasing sense that is both earthy and masculine. The heart shape is derived from this stain as well and the proportions remain largely unchanged from this image.

The last color combination is a mix between the two. I kept the incorporation of the "red heart" as it's a big color in their overall branding scheme already and then followed it up by earthy browns with maroon tints. Its a pleasing combination of both color schemes, and though it loses some of its connection with Tatiana's original post, it continues to be a warm, loving, much more feminine color scheme. The colors do a wonderful job coming together and balancing each other out, and are a nice break from the red-white combination.

However being much more fond of the brown and blue, I continued to create mock-ups of the design in that color scheme. Above is a snapshot of the pieces created right out from my own portfolio. To the left are T-shirt mock-ups that feature the patch design that went for the donation campaign I had described in an earlier post (To see the post click this link : LINK). The original printed versions have the finished logo underneath.

As for logo choice,after going through several failed versions, this one is the one I had chosen. There's a quirkiness to the font and a simple illustration with meaning.

I had tried to incorporate the Tin-Man's tin hat into the logotype, however as you can see below it starts to look more like an Asian straw hat without the tin-man underneath to make sense of what people are looking at.

Hello everyone!
It's been so long since I have last posted, but I am happy to announce my classes are finally over. Man this quarter was hard, I was just bogged down with so much work to do and no time to do it. No one seems to believe me when I However I managed somehow and now I'm ready to get right back into blogging more regularly, updating The Taffetas more regularly, and practicing all my artsies.

As for my plans right now and for the hopeful future I think I am going to apply to some jobs that I've always wanted, but never really had the balls to go for. Since the final stretch of my last portfolio class I feel that I can be a real good contender. Wish me luck~<3

I'm also going to try to keep this thing updated. I like being able to just chit chat (well to no one in particular) here and up until now I actually have the time to do so. (Let's hope it says this way)

Jeffreys heart update

I haven't blogged in a while but much has gone in. So much I have fallen a bit back on posting again. It seems I might never make a habit of posting regularly. Luckily with school ending and my work going into manageable levels, I might be more consistent.

Now let me tell you about my newest piece for Jeffrey's Heart Foundation. Recently my cousin Jeffrey was able to finally come back home after being in the hospital for a long while. He was diagnosed with non-compaction cardiomyopathy in July 2011. Although my family found another designer to go with I did want to help out so I designed a website mock-up (screenshots of it can be seen right below) and a campaign based on the mission.

My idea for the campaign was a simple one to show gratitude and support. I dubbed it, "Show a little Heart, Wear a little Heart." Plans to go with it is still in the approval stage. Here are mock-ups of the shirts using the models from DesignedByHumans T-shirt mock-ups. I was going for something easy and simple.

Hello everyone. It has been another while since I have posted. Yep, it's been another hit of a large amount of work.

Mind Katalyst

& my Portfolio 101 class

They have all been wonderful, but each is so time consuming.

For the Taffetas, if unaware I have been entered into the Animation World Magazine's (AWM) pitch party contest 2011. For the contest we have been in the works of creating a (really tiny) magazine ad to place on their magazine. The cost of entry was $375 but SCAD was nice enough to pay our way in. This was our entry:
Tracy and I worked very hard to produce the ad. All of it was done in a weeks time because to the time we received word of the contest. Despite the hardship and the sleepless nights it took to manage our finals as well as create this ad the finial result was something wonderful. We have yet to recieve word of the contest results, but we wanted to thank everyone for supporting the project!!

For Mind Katalyst, we have requited the wonderful and very talented Nana Boachie for an animated short the company is working on. We are also currently looking for other talented interns as well, but until then this short proves to be something very promising.

And for my own portfolio, I have been in the works of editing and fixing up a few of my old projects. In the meantime I had to come up with my goals and mission statement. Half to say it was actually nice to have it all on paper. Feel more focused and all that jazz XD

Either way I thought I might share them.

Hey! Long time since I last Posted,
but I'm excited toshow off the newly redesigned facebook group. I have never done facebook pages like this before, but after hitting the books and figuring things out I was able to make a nice welcome tab from a static fbml app. It rather took me a bit to figure things out though it was worth it. It's now a more professional, easier to understand, mini-site.

Just for kicks I wanted to show the other design choice I was thinking prior to the completed thing. Below is the screen shot of it. Not too different admittedly, but I fixed some things up. Other choices I had made before was a lime green/grey color scheme, a dark red/gold one and an all white set-up. For obvious reasons I did not go with those.

This is a poster I created for the pitch The Taffetas, an online drama series. It is to be featured in today's Senior Soiree at the Savannah College of Art and Design campus. If the pose looks familiar, its because it is referencing Botticelli's, The Birth of Venus. Hopefully people find them as humorous as last quarter and we get a nice turn out.

This is the newest poster I've done for Tracy's wonderful animated short : Test Flight, due to be completed Fall 2011.

The wife of an eccentric inventor deals with her feelings of neglect during the
test flight of her husband’s most beloved invention : a flying Ford Model-T car.

Needless to say the contraption crashes, and I tried to convey it rather subtly by basing the poster off a cover of another rather interesting story : The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.

As I have mentioned before in earlier post, I have been working under Mind Catalyst LLC (Now Mind Katalyst LLC) a learning company focused on compter programing and science education for children K-12. It has been a long ride but a wonderful one. This is the final logo in a mutitude of many roughs. (Below are just a few)

(You'll notice the amount of revision before reaching the final piece. Some are better than others, and the company went through a lot of restructuring as far as what kind of business it wanted to be as well as a name change after coming up with concepts and mock-ups)

What is Test Flight?

Test Flight is a 2011 student animated short at the Savannah College of Art and Design. It will be completed using Adobe Flash with a mix of puppets and frame-by-frame and composited After Effects. It runs about 2 minutes.

This film is about the wife of an eccentric inventor who deals with her feelings of neglect during the test flight of her husband’s beloved invention, a flying Ford Model-T.

Gemini Puppet Finially Done

While this puppet took a very long time to complete (2 whole days non-stop ;3;) I am very happy to say the results are fantastic. My good friend, and co-creator for our animated web drama, Tracy MacLauchlan will be test animating it very soon.This was definitely the most complex puppet I've ever made for sure, but my favorite. She came out so cuuute. I really want to thank Tracy for the wonderful turnaround she had done. I could not have done this work without her.

The Taffetas animation will be a Flash-based puppet
animation with special effects and compositing done
in After Effects. This is so that we can work in-house
as well as distribute our media more on the internet.

Puppet, or cut-out animation, relies on a marionette-
like base for the characters made up of various shapes
that create the whole (for instance, Gemini's arms are
made up of two cylinder shapes that are connected at
the elbow like a puppet). In Flash, Toonboom or any
other animation program that like it,an animator can
then move and manipulate these shapes to animate.

For Taffetas, puppet animation makes sense not only
for production and resource reasons, but also for our
fashion and marketability plan. Take note of the var-
ious outfits we can put Gemini in, ready to go for ani-
mation for whatever episode we are now working on!

This is a preview of the game I had worked on last quarter. I hadn't put it online yet, but it will be playable and up soon. Essentially the game is a story about me not being able to get to class on time. It was done entirely in Flash and AS3. I worked with 2 amazing teammates, Dana Corrigan (character animation) and Tracy MacLauchlan (ending sequence), who are always my first choices in teaming up with anyone for a collaborative project.

Dibble Dabbles

A Project for a studio class. Essentially it was broken up into 3 parts. Something tangible, something printable, and something viable through the screen (ie web-based)
What I did was create a doll that had it's own packaging (it looked like a McDonalds happy-meals only shaped like a briefcase), a set of business playing cards, and a flash based game. This was all done with a approx. 2 weeks to complete it. ;) I'm good.

The idea behind the entire piece was how do I communicate a solution that will hit the idea that adults loss their sense of curiosity and imagination. I didn't want it to be a negative kind of approach, "YOU! Stop going to Chili's every Friday, and making love on a Wednesday just because you are free those days ... and those are the days you do those things" but I did want to approach the idea that, maybe as we get older routine becomes safe and familiar, and how can I shake things up. Some long thought went into this, but after a while I settled on Dibble Dabbles. (A play on the words, to Dabble and Fiddle-Faddle) Essentially it's a small portable game that plays on the idea of exchanging cards. You pass along a Dibble Dabble Business card, the person does it and passes it on. Or maybe you play it on your own and hope to go through the whole deck one card at a time. Either way, for a moment the person was creative and imaginative and managed to shack their routine even if by small increments at a time.

The cards above were sized like business cards and in a pack of 52. The first 3 being the top of the cards. The idea behind it is that it is in a format where it didn't feel like a child's game, but still inspired childlike creativity.

So things have been a bit hectic here in SCAD, Savannah. I was practically neck deep in projects. Here are some of the ones I did towards the end when finals were dwindling down. Some better than others, but for the most part I am fond of them all.

A collaboration with my friend Tracy for Myth assignment. Essentially, if you think you know about myth.... you don't. Or I didn't. I thought myths were all about magical tales of wonder and rescue. Nope. Sometimes a man gets so angry he defecates in the palace walls and throws them about (Susanowo) , other times he shoves a horse through a hole (Same guy), or kills 12 sons for not forgiving him for murder (Heracles). Either way, myth is a strange experience, that makes little to no sense. Fun, FUN class though.

What a quarter. Though it is not over yet, I am finally glad to get through the worsts of it. But if you are wondering how everything went, I will have to admit though this was a very stressful experience it was very rewarding as well. For those that do follow me you probably already know that lately I have been balancing classes and a (nerve wracking) pitch to Nancy Spears, director of marketing of Warner Brothers (She's actually very nice). All in all however after spending approx. 2 weeks or more on the book, and trying to round up all the final work for people, the final result was beau-ti-ful, and something I was very proud of :)

The Taffetas pitch is going really well! We've received so much amazing work, and more is on the way. If you know of Pompfiction, the creator Brianna has helped us along and created comics for us. Here they are. You can read them on the blog :)

As well as a few storyboards from Kelsey, one of our storyboard artists. She's but a freshmen, but she still manages to do amazing work, and I am very happy to have her on the project.

For anyone who has been interested in The Taffetas, or has no idea what I am talking about, its an original series pitch Tracy and I have been doing together for the last 2 months now. We've managed to get alot done in only 6 weeks, and more work is soon to come. Panacea Tea Design

So I have completed the Tea Design posters and I would love to show them off. I think I did a pretty nice job. It is for a faux Tea Company that sells alternative medicinal teas. I designed the logo, the posters, the box, the website, and little handouts. Above are the logo designs in full color, in gray, and in strictly black in white.

These are the (mostly) completed poster design. I conveys the feeling and then offers a cure. Simple, earthy tones were used to convey a sense of warmth. The fully finished one includes text on what each one doe exactly, but I can't seem to find it. Either way, this is pretty much the final look of the piece.

Man its been so long since I have ventured in Blogger. I've been meaning to, but it seems one thing happens after another, and school here at SCAD has me drowned in homework. So what I'm going to do is try to stick to updating regularly again, starting now.

As for what I've been up to lately, well lots. I have an internship at MindCatalyst, and I am currently design lead for them. Strange huh.... the girl who draws baby animals got a serious job. It's launching sometime in 2011 (can't give out that kind of thing you know) but if you would like to visit the temporary website CLICK HERE !

It's a nice little site I temporary put up. Designed that and the logo myself. Pretty proud of it :D

Another really large project I am in now is "The Taffetas" a pitch to Warner Brothers that myself and close friends of mine co-created. I would visit the site, if only to give emotional support. We'd appreciate any feedback a person can give. Tracy and I are very smitten with the project and as the days go on, and more and more work get fleshed out, I am sure the Taffeta's will be a project to be proud of. So far we've made advertisements for the project. Those are them below.

The tag line was "cover our behinds, costume designers needed!" and "what are you doing!? If nothing, lend us a hand" It was a play on the relationship between the characters. The husband on the right furious lol.

So I drew her a pic! It's Veil and Gem trying to stay warm with their poms. Admittedly I think Veil would rather be cold than be in Gem's (giamungus in this pic) jacket. Oh well. But anyways, it's my normal vector style... only in chibi and with a brush added :D I like it...not something I'd make a practice of doing since I'm not sure if it adds or distracts, but it was cool to try. A movie clip I did in Flash. I had approx. a week to do it, and it was a hard thing to accomplish in a week, but because of the help of my amazing friends Tracy MacLauchlan and Dana Corrigan, I was able to finish rendering it in time. The end result came out much better than if I had worked on it on my own.

Awwww my friend Tito has been sick, so me and a fellow friend of mine, Whitney have been drawing this as a get well present. We collaborated, on just about everything. I drew Veil, and Turner, and Whitney drew Mouse-Tito, Toby, and Crumpet. Then it was all inked by Whitney, and we colored our pieces separately. I put them together and did a quick background after. Hope you feel better Tracy. We LUV you, and we cant wait to see you tomorrow XD

I was thinking about fighting games recently and thought, I might make a character select screen, since I thought it might be fun. Here's a quick look at one of the sketches for it, more to come of course, but Gem is gonna be 1 players choice. I haven't decided on P2 yet tho lol.

Just look at this. She drew it in five minutes or so. I don't exactly remember the number, but I know she said it was fast. But Tracy is just amazing. I told her I'd color two of them to prove it lol. And here's the end result. I really do like when she gives me these pretty works to color. They end up looking better than what I could ever have done on my own...and the best part it took me a third, maybe less, of the time to finish than my normal work.

So here's the image finally finished. I'm pretty proud of myself. I think it's one of my better ones lately. With all this social drawing, I've noticed that I am gettering a bit better. LOL Really, I just love being able to nerd like this. On that note: lol Really, this is what Veil comes home to. It's a wonder why he ever comes back.

Chystalin Design

Okay, so I've been making signage for may friends amazing thesis. It's design is based off beer bottle labels with a Celtic knot-work placed into the design. It's supposed to mimic an old world feel, and still contain that irish bar feeling. After seeing the layout of the bar, i saw a reindeer head and incorporated it into the design. It's still there if you look for it, but was mostly taken out due to the fact that it was hideous lol.Originally I had the colors Green and gold in mind since they seem to be the normal bar colors, however, in the film red is a color of importance, so I changed it. I think its actually nicer in red...I'm going to be showing this to her today. I hope she likes it <3

This guy was actually a hard one. I had to draw him over and over again, just to get him the way I wanted. While normally he's less fuzzy, I kind of decided last minute that I wanted him really inhuman...and he looked so much cuter in the final lol so this is his new design.

One of my more shorter characters. I think this is probably the most clean line work I've ever done, but then, I draw her a lot so I am a little familiar with how she works. I still had to adjust some though, since her pose was really strange the first go. After tho, well, it was mostly grunt work. I did get rid of her hat, though it was fabulous. She still wears it, but it was just too much with the eye patch. Now it's either or with her.

The making of Veil

Well, just because a few of my friends and family members said it's interesting to see how I draw, I decided to start putting up the details on how I made some of these pieces....just so everyone can see how many revisions I make lol as well as how lazy I am during the roughs. XD But anyhow, you can see some of the changes I made over time. I had Veil lose some of his height. I changed his wardrobe. My friend Tracy totally fixed him up when I couldn't figure out the arms. She even made some expressions for me. Which helped a lot as well btw, totally just copied the eyebrows when I went in and finally put in his mouth. As you can see I just sort of had a line for where the mouth is supposed to be. (It's still there in the final lol, it's his lip shading) There are alot more subtle chages as well, but really, I don't want to explain them. Anyhow sufficient to say, I have horrible line work...

... but the final came out pretty good ;3; Oh! and Veil...totally owned by my friend Tracy. I just like drawing other peoples characters.

this is one of Lache as human *3* I might not actually ever finish it, but i was really thinking about it since he came out so much cuter than I thought he would. I kept his skin tone that orange-yellow since I like that idea that even when he has a more human form, he's still has some inhuman qualities. Though now that I think about it, most people will think he just has a bad tan. But I sure do love his freckles.

However I am finishing Gem...one day... That said, I never realized how heavy set she was until I put her next to her buddy there. Compared to Lachesis, who's so lanky to start with, I realize she is rather round. v_v

A little comic I did for this last final in the history of graphic design. For it to make some sort of sense basically Milton Glaser created the I *heart* NY symbol, Carson uses type in a way that makes reading it almost impossible (also he's kind of a jerk), And Eric Gill is a pedophile that rapes everything.... including his dog. Look him up, he's an ...uh.... interesting fellow.

This is a picture of Gemini and Kyle(Dana's OC - He's adorable) together. She's trying to get him to use his psychic ability to get her something. We've decided since Gemini is a cat-lady for misfit kids that she would just automatically adopt this lil' boy, since she ha a habit of doing that. I wanted a 1950's feel since it's during a period where women were constricted into fitting into the perfect motherhood role. I thought it nicely ironic lol being as Gemini is happiest mothering someone, and in this point of the story she's being controlled by Malachi(a wonderfully beautiful and evil man) into doing whatever he wants while maintaining the appearance of a happy family. Perfectly 1950's...

Cat Fight

A lovely little fight between Gemini and Larkspur (An OC of Dana's) at a restaurant. This is the part where Gemini is winning lol, but Larkspur does get her good. Anyhow, I'm seriously debating whether to keep editing it or just leaving it alone. So I figure I'll leave it be for now... and fix it up later... when I have more time.

EDIT: Okay well here is it edited lol as you can see <.< I thought to fix a few things. New background, and tore up Larkspur's dress.

I figured Gemini's wardrobe would be a little more showy because she comes from wealth, So she has on pink pearls (rare and freaking expensive lol) and a pretty but other wise ornate dress that does her skin tone justice lol (Since Veil picked it out, he would have thought this over) I also put her in lace rather than jewels and made the cut of her dress less risque since I think while she'd be put in fashionable clothing.....it would still be something that makes her look soft and cute rather than sexy. Larkspur on the other hand is dressed in a plain cocktail dress. Classy, and elegant, but not extremely fancy since she's of moderate wealth. I made it orange since that's the color of her normal wardrobe, and black would have made her look like the villian LOL
